The actor, 50, is up for Best Supporting Actress at the awards for her role as stripper Ramona in Hustlers, and it’s the first time she’s been nominated since starring in Selena in 1998.
She posted the video on her Twitter account, telling fans: ‘Hi guys, I’m just waking up and I just heard that I got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for a Golden Globe.
‘Oh my god, it’s been 20 years since I was nominated for Selena. I just want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this incredible honour.
‘I am humbled and so excited to be recognised for this role as Ramona in Hustlers. Thank you so much and I’ll see you at the Globes.’
Alongside the video, she posted: ‘Could not be prouder to be recognized by the HFPA. Hustlers was a labor of love, sweat and perseverance written, directed, produced, edited and starring a group of bad-ass women.
‘I am proud and honored to represent them and this film!!!! #HustlersMovie #ramona’.
Jennifer is up against Margot Robbie (Bombshell), Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell), Laura Dern (Marriage Story) and Annette Bening (The Report).
In Hustlers, JLo plays veteran stripper Ramona, who is the club’s highest earner until the Wall Street crash of 2008 which leaves her and her fellow dancers looking for alternative ways to increase their income now the regulars don’t have as much money to spend.
Based on a true story, the film sees Ramona and her crew drug men and lure them into the strip club, where they rack up tens of thousands of dollars on their credit cards while they are too out of it to know what’s happening.
As well as Jennifer, the cast also includes Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart and guest appearances from Cardi B, Lizzo, Usher, G Eazy and more.
The Golden Globes will take place on 5 January 2020 in Los Angeles.
