Dimpie Dimpopo (real name Nadeem Poen) told DRUM he’s always been an entertainer, even at home, and it was a combination of perfect timing and his supportive fan base that made his work get the recognition he’s getting now.
Dimpie Dimpopo has made his way into the hearts of South Africans one funny online video at a time. Every time you see him, you can’t help but think, “Oh Nkosi Yami, ereng mood-I”.
And after lighting the stage on fire with his performance of his song “Oh Nkosi Yami” alongside Maphorisa, Moonchild Sanelly and Zulu Mkhathini at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards, it seems he’s here to stay.
“I’m so grateful for the many people who believe in me enough to buy into my dreams. I mean literally, people spend their data watched the videos I make and I just thank everyone. I’m so blessed man, God is so good to me,” he said.
“Even when I took on a few odd jobs, cleaning people’s yards after completing matric, I always knew where I wanted to be and I wasn’t afraid of the hard work,” he added.
