It seems a refreshing change for the rapper in a year that has been sort of a mixed experience for her. This includes the passing of two loved ones.

Here are few things to know about Queen Latifah:

1. A rapper and an actress
Queen Latifah signed with Tommy Boy Records in 1989 and released her debut album “All Hail the Queen” under the label. Her early appearance behind the camera saw her play a lead role in the sitcom “Living Single” which lasted from the year 1993 to 1998. Her prominence on the show opened her up to bigger appearances in movies. One of her popular films include “Barber Shop 2: Back In Business” appearing alongside Ice Cube.

2. Grammy Award winner
Queen Latifah’s 1993 album “Black Reign” produced a song ‘U.N.I.T.Y’ that successfully earned a Grammy award. On the track she talks about the issues affecting women. These include street harassment, domestic violence, and slurs used to represent women in hip-hop.

3. A show host with $60 million net worth
The personality of being a show host is one of the features that helped improve her personality. She reportedly produced a talk show “The Queen Latifah Show” which originally ran from from September 13, 1999 to August 31, 2001. According to a 2017 rating published by Bankrate, she has a $60 million net worth.

4. Daughter to divorced parents
According to reports, Queen Latifah’s parents divorced themselves when she was only 10-year-old. This boosted her closeness to brother Winki. The pair reportedly comforted each other during trying times.

5. Mother Rita Owens passed away in 2018
Queen Latifah suffered a painful loss when her mother Rita Owens passed away. She reportedly died in March following a battle with a heart condition. Earlier in the year 1992, the rapper’s brother Lancelot Jr., was killed in a car crash.
