You are here: Home Other News Economist Dawie Roodt attacked at home in Pretoria security estate Other News, Economist Dawie Roodt attacked at home in Pretoria security estate by PH July 24, 2015, 4:00 pm Johannesburg – Economist Dawie Roodt and his wife and children were attacked by four armed men in their home in a security estate in Pretoria East, AfriForum said on Friday. “He was seriously injured and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of a Pretoria hospital. His wife was able to lock herself and their children in a room,” AfriForum said in a statement. “Mr Roodt obtained serious head wounds and his arm was seriously injured. His wife and children are unscathed, but terribly traumatised,” Ian Cameron, head of community safety at AfriForum said. “We as South Africans are not safe anywhere, not even in a security estate. Crime is paralysing our country. It’s out of control.” Trade union Solidarity also confirmed the attack, saying Roodt was out of danger. However, after an operation yesterday [Thursday] evening in the Pretoria East Hospital, he is out of danger.” “Unfortunately incidents such as these have become a daily occurrence in South Africa. Over the last 24 hours, five people have been killed in robberies. We are just grateful that the Roodt family have been spared,” Hermann said.
