Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Arrests Ex Nigerian Minister Of Defence Obanikoro’s Wife

Abuja – Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) on Thursday, detained Hajiya Morufat Obanikoro, wife of previous Minister of Defence Musiliu Obanikoro’s complying with intelligence reports.

Obanikoro’s wife reportedly sneaked into the country to clear some evidence that linked her husband and two sons to the N4.7 billion that was allegedly collected and laundered through them during the build up to Ekiti governorship election in 2014.

She was allegedly arrested in their Lagos home while she was attempting to make away with vital documents relating to the case.

The DSS is said to be working in collaboration with the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate those involved in the transfer of the money which was allegedly collected from the office of the national security adviser under Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Obanikoro has been declared wanted by the anti-graft agency but has remained abroad.

News24 previously reported that the EFCC froze the bank accounts of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the account of a company, belonging to the two sons of former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

The EFCC’s actions were based on information received from banks that outlines alleged illegal transactions by the two, during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

The EFCC also claim to have documents in their possession that shows a paper trail of how the money was illegally accrued and transported to the two accused parties.
