Drama As Knife-Wielding Man Attempts To Abduct Kenyan Magistrate

Nairobi – There was drama in Kerugoya town in Kirinyaga County, after a knife-wielding man attempted to abduct a female magistrate on Wednesday morning.

Magistrate Juliet Kassam said the man, who was hiding in her car, ambushed her as she started the engine to leave for work.

According to the Daily Nation, the abductor tied Kassam’s hands before asking for a KES 50 000 ransom

Since she did not have any cash on her, she gave him her ATM cards.

The 22-year-old man then attempted to steal the car, but the magistrate screamed and her neighbours came to her rescue.

Police were called and the man was arrested.

Cases of kidnappings are very rare in the country, with reported cases mostly conducted by al-Shabaab in the towns bordering Somalia.

The most recent incident was reported in October last year, when a female teacher was kidnapped at Dadaab in Garissa County. She was rescued a few days later by the Kenya Defence Forces.
