American poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, who passed away in 2014, would have been 90 years old yesterday.
The literary icon was celebrated by several people, including several celebrities who donned “Phenomenal Woman” tee-shirts as a tribute.
Their captions read:
Maya Angelou, the original Phenomenal Woman, would’ve been 90 years-old today. Not only was she an iconic poet and author, she also was a civil rights leader. In this urgent moment of social activism, let’s remember what she so beautifully taught us: phenomenal black women will be seen and heard, and we will always rise to the occasion.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tracee Ellis Ross, June Ambrose, Karrueche, Eve, Debra Lee, Serayah, Cindy Burna, Naturi Naughton, Jordan Dunn, Misty Copeland, Niecy Nash, Wendy Williams, Toni Braxton and many more were spotted in the shirts today.
