As it is the common tradition in Swaziland for the King to choose a new wife every year, the current King of Swaziland, Mswati III, has chosen a 19-year-old girl as his fourteenth wife.
According to Buzz South Africa, King Mswati’s who is also the head of the Swazi Royal Family chose the daughter of a Swaziland Cabinet Minister, Jabulile Mashwama, as his new bride.
The 19-year-old new bride Siphelele Mashwama is a graduate of Swaziland’s Waterford Kamhlaba World University College.
The King and his new bride are currently in the United States as the King attends the United Nations General Assembly.
King Mswati III chose his bride last year from the popular Reed dance that holds annually every year. The Reed dance ceremony is a part of Swazi and Zulu tradition where unmarried and childless women of Swazi travel to Ludzidzini as they participate in the 8-day event.
The Reed dance ceremony also known as Umhlanga holds between August and September every year. The intended bride’s virginity will also be checked for confirmation publicly during the event.
Other of his wives include: Inkhosikati LaMatsebula, Inkhosikati LaMotsa, Inkhosikati LaMbikiza, Inkhosikati LaNgangaza, Inkosikati LaMagwaza (deserted), Inkhosikati LaHoala (deserted), Inkhosikati LaMasango, Inkhosikati LaGija (deserted), Inkhosikati Magongo, Inkhosikati LaMahlangu, Inkhosikati LaNtentesa, Inkhosikati LaNkambule, Inkhosikati Ladube and Inkhosikati LaFogiyane.
Swazi king Mswati is also said to have over 13 children which include his eldest daughter HRH Princess Sikhanyiso, Sibahle Dlamini, Makhosothando Dlamini, Majaha Dlamini, Tiyandza Dlamini, Sakhizwe Dlamini, Saziwangaye Dlamini, Bandzile Dlamini, Lindaninkosi Dlamini, Mcwasho Dlamini, Temtsimba Dlamini and Temaswati Dlamini, among others.
