Beijing – An attacker stabbed four judges with a knife smuggled into a courthouse in central China on Wednesday morning, state media reported.

A suspect was arrested after the attack at the No. 1 Intermediate Court in the Hubei province city of Shiyan, according to the website of China National Radio. One judge was seriously injured, CNR said.

The suspect was arrested in the courthouse basement and had apparently smuggled a knife past security at the front entrance, CNR said.

It quoted Shiyan city government spokesperson Qu Wanyong as saying that the suspect was involved in a labour dispute being heard by the court.

No details were given, although such cases often involve non-payment of wages.
