Ijebu-Ode (Ogun) – A don, Prof. Alani Seriki, has advised Muslims to pray for peace, stability and prosperity in the country during the ongoing Ramadan.
Seriki, a renowned professor of Islamic and Arabic Studies at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, stated this on Friday.
The scholar, who said this at the Ramadan lecture organised by Ijebu-Ode Club in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, said that Nigeria needed prayers to conquer its present security challenges.
Lamenting the spate of incessant killings in the country, the don noted that such activities had tarnished Nigeria’s image in the comity of nations.

While urging the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the problem, Seriki posited that dialogue would assist in restoring normalcy in the polity.
“ Islam is a religion of peace, knowledge, tolerance and not a religion of blood shedding.
“ Prophet Muhammed (SAW) is a man of peace who always believed in the word “Asalam.” Those who engage in the killing of innocent people are ignorant of the doctrine and tenets of the Islamic religion.
“The Islamic religion is a religion of peace brought by a man of peace, Prophet Muhammed. “
“Anybody who does not want peace is not a Muslim. Islam encourages formal education and knowledge,’’ he said.
In his address, Dr Tunji Dawodu, the President of the Club, said the purpose of the lecture was to enlighten the people on the doctrine of Islam in the promotion of peace. (NAN)
