Happy days are here for the rank and file of the Nigeria Police Force. The least paid policeman – a constable – will earn a minimum of N50,000 per month, if the proposal of the police high command to the Presidency gets the nod of Mr. President.
This disclosure was made by Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar on Monday in Lagos while addressing officers and men of the Force as part of his visit to the State Command.
He said: “We are looking into the welfare of our officers and we have made a proposal to the Presidency for the basic salary of constables to be a minimum of N50, 000.”
He said apart from the proposed salary increase, other welfare packages like housing, training, mortgage facilities and efficient staff cooperative scheme were being restructured to make sure that every policeman benefitted.
He said, “We have started with the 500 housing unit in Abuja. The Rank and File will benefit from the housing policy first because they are the men on the field during the rain and the sun. I will pay attention to the Rank and File.”
Abubakar however warned his men to desist from any form of harassment of journalists and other Nigerians, saying if reports were made, culprits would face the wrath of the law.
His declaration has since sent officers and men of the Force across the nation into a state of ecstasy.
A constable in the Nigeria Police Force currently earns N28,000 a month.
