It was double tragedy for Kolawole Richard, a school teacher of 19 Jagun Street, Okokomaiko on the outskirts of Lagos who dragged his 28-year-old wife to a customary court in Lagos for using a kitchen knife to slice his manhood when he attempted to sleep with her.
Janet Uduak, a mother of one, allegedly carried out the “butchering” act because her husband was fond of demanding sex unceasingly, much against her wish.
The incident, which happened at 19, Jagun Street, Okokomaiko, on the outskirts of Lagos, left Richard’s genitals seriously injured, causing him to lose his ability to have erection.
Richard had asked Customary Court sitting at Ijanikin to dissolve his marriage with Janet whom he alleged was too violent and would not perform her matrimonial obligations, including sexual intercourse.
He told the court that although he paid N50,000 bride price on Janet at her village in Akwa Ibom State, yet Janet constantly denied him “the fruit of his labour.”
“There is usually trouble in the bedroom any time I wanted to make love to her,” Richard, an indigene of Ondo State told the court.
In his evidence, Richard tendered a photograph of his almost severed manhood and told the judges that he was no longer interested in cohabiting with Janet. He also prayed the court to grant him the custody of the only daughter of the marriage.
But Janet, showing some remorse, begged for forgiveness, promising that she would fulfill her obligations as a wife including allowing him to have sex with her any time he wanted. But Richard insisted that the marriage was over..
In his judgment, the President of the court, Mr. S. K. Hussain, ruled that the relationship had completely broken down. He consequently dissolved the marriage and ordered Richard to pay Janet a sum of N26,000 as alimon
