The Joint Task Force in Kano State on Friday reported a major breakthrough in its onslaught against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.
The JTF, acting on a tip-off arrested the sect’s operational commander, Suleman Mohammed, his wife and five children at their residence in Farawa Barban area of the city.
The Bomb Disposal Unit of the Nigeria Police also detonated 9 improvised bombs during the raid on Farawa area of the metropolis strongly suspected to be the hide-out of Boko Haram militants.
In a related development, the JTF in Maiduguri on Friday reported multiple bomb blasts going off in different locations of the city as well as sporadic gunshots.
The number of casualties had not been determined as at press time.
