Chelsea in-form midfielder, Mikel Obi and Salomon Kalou have boasted that the team has all it takes to beat the acclaimed best football club in the world, Barcelona, in their two-leg semi-final match in the ongoing UEFA Champions League matches.
Speaking with MTNFootball.com, Mikel said, “We have met at this stage before and they scaled through. It’s our time now to do the same to them.” He admitted that “Barcelona are a great team, no doubt; they are the best now”, but Mikel explained that does not mean they are invincible. “They have lost games this season, so we can beat them,” he boasted.
In his own views, Kalou believed that Chelsea can pull off a win over Barcelona over two legs, adding that they had seen how Inter Milan under Mourinho defeated them two years ago and that the Blues can repeat the Inter Milan feat.
However, Jose Mourinho has expressed the opinion that Barcelona are sure they will berth at this year’s Champion League final, making a veiled reference to favouritism towards Barcelona in Europe’s elite club competition.
Chelsea and Barcelona were in a similar semi-final tie in the 2008/2009 season. The match ended 1-1 in London but Barca won on away goal rule in controversial circumstances bordering on officiating.
The first leg of the Barcelona/Chelsea cracker will come up on April 18 and the second leg a week later, April 24.
